 Community Outreach
Wayne Woods Garden Club participates in many projects for the benefit of the community.

 PHS City Gardens Judging

Two teams of club members acted as judges for the PHS-sponsored City Gardens Contest in Philadelphia.  It is a wonderful program that encourages the “greening” of the city and was an unforgettable experience for those who judged the gardens. For them, the highlight of the 2010 Philadelphia Flower Show was sharing the enthusiam of those involved and seeing the winning photographs  during the informative presentation given by Philadelphia Green

 Meals on Wheels

Club members make 25 seasonal decorations four or more times per year for trays that are delivered to homebound individuals by the MainLine Meals on Wheels. At our September 2010 meeting, we enjoyed an Ice Cream Social hosted by Sally Smith. This was followed by a Meals on Wheels workshop using ice cream cone dishes and spoons for our fresh flower arrangements.

 Ronald McDonald House

At Easter, Lee Carson, Gwen Puglisi, Nancy Morris and Linda Mason decorated the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia with baskets of flowers to give a spring time feel to this very special place.
See our Recent Events page for photos of this year's Ronald McDonald House Workshop.

 Surrey Sevices

We made an extra large evergreen wreath to decorate the entrance of Surrey Services for Seniors in Berwyn PA – now a yearly request.

 Devon House Tour

In October, members of the Design Committee provided floral creations for the Devon Country Fair Fall Festival of Homes. The arrangements were placed in the Tague Lumber Design Showroom where boxed lunches were served. The Devon Country Fair is an annual event. Since 1972, it has raised over $14 million dollars for the benefit of Bryn Mawr Hospital.

 Donations

Wayne Woods Garden Club made a sizable donation to the building fund for the new education center at Jenkins Arboretum. We also continued our yearly contribution to the Upper Merion Park and Historic Foundation. A donation was made to the Garden Club Federation of PA’s Scholarship Fund for horticultural studies.  We are especially pleased to contribute to the Federation of Neighborhood Centers-Teens 4 Good, which we learned of during the PHS City Gardens Judging.  Our donation is designated to support their efforts at the garden at Gorgas Park on Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia.
